About a month ago, my video camera was broken by my annoying little brother (he’s appeared in the show a couple of times). After my parents refused to pay for a NEW camera (the one I was using was only a couple years old, despite the horrid quality), I put the show on official hiatus. But, after more requests/complaints/pleas than I can count, I’ve finally decided that I might as well just go back to the basics: Me, in my room, with an iSight, talking tech. I had decided that I couldn’t go back to the basics at the point I was at, that the whole point of iEye had kind of changed to fit the greenscreen and nothing else, but, well, I think it can go back, at least until I can save up enough for a new camera. So, it is with pleasure that I announce that the iEye hiatus is over as of TOMORROW! I’m busily working away at the pre-show as I write, well, not AS I write, but as soon as I finish, this one should be good. I will be doing it in Final Cut, so, while it will not be greenscreened, it’ll have all the multi-track video overlay goodness of iEye’s 6-12. So yeah, hope to see you there, watching it!

Editors Note: Pictures are from last year, in case there was any confusion

As many of my long time followers will remember, this April my grandparents bought a condo (whew, almost said ‘condom’ there) on the lovely Sanibel Island. It’s probably one of the most upper-class tropical neighborhoods there are, with one small, barely oceanfront condo(m) costing upwards of a million bucks, lucky for me my grandparents are rich (hello, inheritance). Anyhoo, this monday we are going back there for Christmas, mostly to get away from the freezing cold up here in New England, yes, as I write this it is 80ºF in Sanibel, with a UV index of 11.

I like Sanibel just because of the sheer novelty of “OMG, it’s December and it’s 80º out”, but there’s plenty to do there. A web of bicycle paths criss-cross the island, as does a web of canals (pictured above). It is also the home of what I consider to be the world ugliest lighthouse (pictured left), I mean really, who built that thing? Up here in New England we take pride in the beauty of our carefully constructed white stone lighthouses. But, ok, in the end I must admit that the real attraction of sanibel is the miles of beaches … and the Segway rental shop (you have to be 14 to rent one, and I just turned 14, so, well, perfect!). I may sound a little bit snotty right now, like “I’m going to Florida and it’s great but your not”, I know, I’m just so excited, so I apologize, but now I’m gonna get to the important part, what does a GEEK do in florida?

So, this was my set-up last year, an 8 year old Toshiba Portege 3110ct (purchased from eBay for $50, and yes, I know, it does look like the folio, who knew Palm is to Toshiba as Microsoft is to Apple), and a WiFi router. Alas, even with the prospect of eternal beachiness awaiting in florida, I could not give up my beloved twitter. What about this year, what will I have to satisfy my ever growing addiction to stalking people i’ve never met? Well, permitting clearance from my Dad, this year I will be taking my belovéd iTouch … AND the ol’ laptop. What does this all mean? Well, assuming the WiFi router still works (you just never know what’ll happen to a piece of junk router in the Florida summer heat), I’ll still be online quite a bit, as sad as that is. Many people hope for a break from the pressures and stresses of the internet, but not I, no, I am addicted beyond hope. So, then, why did I even bother to blog this if nothing will change? Well, mostly using my bragging rights, but also writing it as a kind of prologue to the MeThisWeek that will come after I get back!

And, to squeeze in one last picture (Milo wanted to be in my post, but I couldn’t find any pics where he was smiling, so this was the best I could get):

Get all the info straight from the horses mouth, plus, see the full theme song! Get an idea of what’s gonna happen with these vids. Sorry about the quality of the video, the camera’s kinda bad to begin with, then iMovie stomped on the video to import it and again to export it, then YouTube stomped on it and didn’t like the MP4 compression. Next time i’ll use mov or something…

Oh, and guess what? It’s my 100th blog post/page! Whoo Hoo!

Update: Viddler likes MP4’s a lot more and has a whole bunch of sweet features so i’m gonna use that now.
